Recently I started tutoring reading in a downtown Baltimore programme. I was inspired by the Get Writing books by Paul Johnson to try to get my tutees to make books as a way of having fun while they learned. http://www.johnnealbooks.com/prod_detail_list/19

My efforts did not meet with great success. This is probably because I only have one hour a week with them. They took their little blank books home and possibly lost them. They certainly didn't bring them back to me.

However I did make a downloadable template for 8.5 x 11 inch paper if anyone wants to use this idea. It will definitely come out again when my nine-year-old niece comes for a week this summer!

And just FYI the blue-bird chicks have hatched and I spend entirely too much time watching the parents going in and out of the nest and dive-bombing any other creatures that come near it.
